Definition
The Cornell criteria are a sex-specific voltage method for diagnosing left ventricular hypertrophy that sums the R wave in aVL and the S wave in V3 (the Cornell voltage). LVH is diagnosed when R(aVL) + S(V3) exceeds 2.8 mV in men or 2.0 mV in women (28 mm and 20 mm, since 1 mm equals 0.1 mV); the related Cornell product multiplies this voltage sum (adding 6 mm in women) by QRS duration, with a threshold above 2440 mm·ms.
